Gildardo Zárate Serret began his musical career at a very young age, participating in various groups until 1963, when he was invited by Carlos Colorado to join Sonora Santanera as first trumpet. His talent and style aligned perfectly with the group's essence, allowing him to establish himself as one of its most outstanding musicians. For 43 years, Zárate Serret was a key member of the group, participating in numerous national and international tours, recordings, and performing in the most important media outlets in Mexico and abroad.

After Carlos Colorado's death, he assumed the musical direction of Sonora Santanera, contributing to the recording of a large part of its musical catalog and keeping the group's essence alive. Under his leadership, the group continued to achieve success, touring countries in Latin America, the United States, and Europe, and participating in important festivals and television programs.
